A fabulous effort by all of our Year 5 and 6 runners as they competed in a hugely competitive field and WET weather conditions. With over 50 children competing in each race we were spurred on with massive support from each other and supportive parents and grandparents. The course was just shy of one mile in length so really testing for Year 5 and 6 pupils.
Team Year 5: girls
Bendigedig to the Year 5 girls who got the races going and it was great to see so many of the girls keen to take part. An amazing performance by Nia Collier who led the Year 5 girls home well inside the top 20 and not far behind Millie Lewis and Cerys. There was awesome team running in pairs from Holly and Alex, Millie Morgan and Ffion and Jessica and Izzy who pushed themselves all the way to the finish line.
Team Year 5: boys
A really strong finish from Felix who pulled through the field to finish in an impressive 4th place. Oliver came home just outside the top 10 with a really strong finish and Gethin wasn't far behind. The rest of the Year 5 boys did very well, most finishing inside the top 30 runners but everyone inside the top 40 of the huge field, with lots great team running on show with Dylan, Lewis and Raffy pushing each other to the end followed by Ryan, Luca, Rhys and Sonny and a sprint finish from Max and Noah .
Team Year 6: girls
An amazing performance from our two Year 6 girl runners who were close to the front runners all the way both finishing inside the top 20 of a really strong field. Well done to Lola and not far behind her Bethan for some excellent cross running.
Team Year 6: boys
In the final race, a really strong Year 6 field Jake had a superb top 10 finish and was closely followed by Cai and not far behind again was Jensen. Some great individual displays from Kale, Lars, Sam and Adam but all of the boys can be proud of their effort as they all finished well inside the top half of the overall field.
All of the children offered amazing support to each other no matter what position they finished which is an important part of cross country due to the effort it takes to complete.
My overall verdict was that there was clearly some highly impressive individual running but the icing on the cake was the work as a team, masses of support and encouragement the children gave to each other to never give up in testing conditions.
