Pontypridd Schools Cup
Congratulations to the school team for reaching the finals night of the Pontypridd Schools Rugby Union Cup. It will be held at Sardis Road on Friday April 3rd where they will play either Dolau, Heol-Y-Celyn or Evan James Primary schools in the semi finals and then progress to the final later in the evening.
The boys who took part were Henry Legg, Gareth Hilton, Matthew Davies, Adam Morse, Ieuan Evans, Rhys Thomas (Captain), Lewis Cartwright, Jamie Worthington, Nathan Hallet, Liam Grace (all year 6 pupils) and Ben Evans ( Year 5).
All boys were in agreement that Liam Grace’s try was the best of the day. He received the ball from a kick-off in his own half and began to run up the touch line. First through one player, then through another and finally a third. He somehow managed to out sprint the incoming defence to score. Wonderful!!
Special mention must go to Matthew Davies, who used his strength to rip ball after ball away from the hands of the opposition, to supply quality possession for the backs to exploit the space. Another boy who gave his all was Henry Legg. His work rate was incredible, it would put some of us to shame.
I would personally thank Llantrisant RFC for allowing us to use their facilities and to the parents who continuously provide transport to our matches. Without you to it would make my task of organising festivals and tournaments a great deal harder.
Please come and support the boys on finals night. I know that the boys would appreciate it as it is the first time that Penygawsi have reached the penultimate round of the cup.
Pontypridd Schools District Under 11s
This is a team made up of the very best players in the Pontypridd area and it is the first rung of the representative ladder. There are a couple of past players in the current Welsh team who have worn the black and white jersey of Pontypridd Schools; Martyn Williams, Gethin Jenkins, Bradley Davies.
We are very proud of the fact that we have 3 pupils in the team; Rhys Thomas, Lewis Cartwright (both Year 6) and Ben Evans (Year 5)
East Wales Under 11s
To play for this team is the equivalent to winning a Welsh cap at primary school level. There is no higher level to play.
I, on behalf of all staff and pupil at Penygawsi wish Rhys Thomas (Year 6) all the best of luck as he has been chosen to go forward to the final round of trials for East Wales.
Pob lwc Rhys
